Sustainable Mechanical Systems, LLC was born January 2016 by long-time business partners Dave Havelick and Greg Korkowski.  We're excited about the opportunity to expand SMS product offerings and serve the OR and SW Washington markets.

Twenty-three years ago I moved to Portland after graduating from Iowa State University, launching my career as a sales engineer.

I've been lucky enough to be involved in projects including nearly every market sector: industrial, healthcare, higher education, mission critical, data centers, and campus wide directives.  It's exciting to see west coast HVAC design trends lead the country with innovation, sustainability, and energy efficiency.

My passion has been developing and maintaining relationships before, during and after the sale.

“It’s the people” has never been more true.

I have 3 young boys and enjoy experiencing all that the Pacific Northwest has to offer: traveling, hiking, camping, fishing, boating, basketball, and golfing.

Born and raised in Minnesota, I graduated from the University of Minnesota with a BSEE in 1988, and joined the Trane Company the same year.

After completing the Trane Graduating Training Class, I worked as a marketing engineer in LaCrosse, WI and Clarksville, TN, where I provided technical support to the field sales offices, and developed the customer requirements for the large rooftop (Intellipak) control platform.

In 1990, I joined TraneOregon as a Sales Engineer and have spent the past 25 years working with engineers, contractors, and owners in Oregon and SW Washington.  Highlights include supplying heat recovery chillers for a variety of applications, and custom MAHs for high tech fabs.

My wife, Amy, is from Portland and a graduate from Lincoln HS, the University of California, Berkeley, and UCLA Business School.   After a successful career in finance, she raised twin boys – John and Michael, who will be off to high school next year.

In my free time, I enjoy golf, skiing, racquetball, camping, biking, travel, and cooking.

I like our dog, George;  I’m starting to like our puppy, Leon.

Born and raised in Santa Monica, CA, I graduated from Cal Poly, SLO with a BSME in 1996, and then settled into the medical sector as a Manufacturing Engineer for MinMed, Inc, now Medtronic MinMed, CA.

It did not take long for love to find me; his name is Scott. Without much resistance from me, he moved us to Seattle, WA in 2001. We have enjoyed 20 years of marital bliss and are now carefully juggling the nuances of raising three teenagers, having relocated to Portland in 2010 via a short stint in MN.

My professional journey has included a variety of Regulatory, Teaching, and Small Business Leadership positions that celebrate the opportunities that an engineering background can afford oneself.

I feel fortunate, having resided in Oregon for nearly a decade now, to begin a new chapter with SMS that builds on my background in engineering, as I pursue excellence as a Project Coordinator – Inside Sales. Otherwise, you might find me taking a brisk walk - delving into Portland’s foodie and microbrew scene as often as possible - that is, if I have managed to come up for air between the kids’ extracurricular activities.

Relationships are at the core of SMS success. I look forward to collaborating with you on our journey together to build Sustainable Mechanical Systems.
